Promptle (“we”, “us”) is a free daily AI image guessing game. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We try to keep data collection minimal and use plain language.
Summary
You can play Promptle without signing in or giving us any personal information.
If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name so we can save your stats across devices.
We do not run advertising, we do not sell your data, and we do not use third-party tracking pixels.
You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing us.
Data we collect
Anonymous gameplay data
When you play a puzzle, even without signing in, we store:
A randomly-generated device identifier (a UUID stored in a cookie on your browser) so the game knows whether you've already played today's puzzle.
The puzzle number, your guesses, how many guesses you used, whether you won, and the timestamp when you finished.
Game statistics (games played, games won, current streak, max streak, guess distribution) stored in your browser's localStorage.
This data is not linked to your real identity unless you choose to sign in.
Account data (only if you sign in)
If you sign in with Google, we receive from Google and store:
Your email address
Your display name (as set on your Google account)
When you sign in, your existing browser-stored stats are synced to your account so they follow you across devices. We take the higher value of any conflicting stats (for example, if your device shows a longer streak than your account, we keep the longer streak).
Server logs
Our hosting provider (Railway) records standard web-server logs, including IP addresses and user-agent strings, for operational and security purposes. These are retained for a short period and not linked to your account.
How we use your data
Run the game: serve today's puzzle, track your guesses, show your results.
Sync your stats across devices when you sign in.
Measure aggregate game health (e.g. how many people played today, win rates). We only use aggregate data for this.
Prevent abuse: identify automated traffic and rate-limit it.
Send emails (future feature, opt-in only): we may one day let you opt in to a daily email when a new puzzle drops. We will never email you unless you explicitly opt in, and every email will contain an unsubscribe link.
Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers we need to run Promptle:
Anonymous gameplay records — kept for as long as we operate the game, because they're used in aggregate to measure game health.
Account data — kept until you request deletion, or until the account has been inactive for a long period and we do a housekeeping pass.
Server logs — typically retained for 30 days by our hosting provider.
Children
Promptle is not directed at children under 13. Google OAuth itself requires users to be at least 13 years old (or older in some jurisdictions). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we will delete it.
International users
Our servers are located in the United States. By using Promptle, you consent to your data being processed there. We process personal data only to provide and improve the service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the “Last updated” date at the top. For material changes (for example, adding a new category of data we collect), we'll notify signed-in users by email.
